I have been in neighbourhood schools all my life; hence I am rather familiar with the educational experience of most students. As someone who comes from the mainstream education, I feel that I can better empathise with the struggles that students face in their bid to achieve results. Also, I am familiar with the all too common lack of enthusiasm in school work. I am more confident with children ages ranging from 7 to 9 years old. I do not take older children because I do not wish to commit myself into anything that I am not fully confident and competent in. That will only be fair for the parents, and most importantly, the students. I teach all English, Math and Science. I used to have 6 students over the years and have stopped giving tuition for a couple of years due to commitments in my full time job as a preschool educator and completing my part time double diploma in early childhood education and montessori. As I am now working only on weekdays from 9am to 6pm, I am able to give tuition from the time after my work and weekends. Of all the 6 children I taught, 5 made vast improvements in their year end results. You can't build Rome in a day, so time for improvement must be reasonable. Many of my students happen to be poor in their English linguistic skills. To help them to improve better, I get good English worksheets that I present personally. I always believe that a child's capability can never equal to what it has on a book. So, I always make sure that my student does worksheets based on their ability and that way, they will improve as time goes by. Reading is essential too, as well as phonics practice. With a good command of english, everything else in english will be easy to grasp onto.
