Hi, my name is Melvin. I am an undergraduate in the Nanyang Technological University, currently having a GPA of 4.44/5 (short of 0.06 to a first class honours) in Biological Science. I had done well academically, and was invited to take a second major in food science & technology in my next semester. I really enjoy teaching and hope to take a few assignments during the holidays.
I specialise in building up foundation. My primary school grades were not good at all (189; made it into express by 1 point). However, i managed to excel in O-levels (8 points) and in university (cGPA 4.44/5.00). I am excellent in all science subjects and good in mathematics.
Thus, I know how weaker students understand the topics and can help them obtain good results with the studying techniques that I learnt in the university. I am the person to engage if you want to jump at least 1 or 2 grades.

Experience

I have been teaching on a regular basis for a year. Started off teaching on as an ad hoc and relief tutor since 4 years ago and last year, I was offered to be a support tutor under the Mendaki Tutor Scheme, helping N level students in Maths and English.
I am currently teaching at a tuition centre, where all the classes are in a small group of 2-4 students only. Subjects I teach include primary Maths, lower and upper secondary Maths as well as Principles of Accounts.

I've always believe that there are usually two types of students; one who consistently performs well while the other picks up speed slower than the first. There is no student that will not end up performing up to his expectations. I belong to the latter.
During my secondary and polytechnic studies, I chose having fun over studying. Even when I have interest in the subjects, I would not find the motivation or drive to put in long hours of studying. With barely adequate efforts, I keep geting poor results. In my third semester in polytechnic I saw how much opportunities my fellow classmates had, because of their high GPA. I suddenly find myself re-examining my goals in life, and finally i can see the road ahead of me. All's that left was to start running. Despite getting better grades in the remaining semesters, my cumulative GPA couldn't get a boost to meet university requirements.
Nonetheless, I was proud of myself. I knew this was only the beginning, and I wanted to learn more and also make up for the lost time. This spurred me to further my education in SIM. While i was studying in University at Buffalo, I gave my 200%, absorbing and learning as much as possible. My strong foundation allowed me to give tuition to my classmates on business and finance related modules. I have achieved a A grade for all of my finance related modules. I took the Bloomberg Aptitude Test and achieved a score of 600 which place me in the 96th percentile internationally.
I received a sponsorship to represent SIM at the Harvard Model United Nations conference in Boston, MA. It is time for me to help those who are in the same position as me back then.I am confident in teaching accounting and finance related modules to secondary school and polytechnic students
