Experience

I have been tutoring my friends and peers at school pro bono for the last 5 years, both in person and online through Facebook or Skype. I have mainly helped them with Cambridge IGCSEs and International Baccalaureate material. I tutor mainly Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Economics, and everyone I have tutored has seen an improvement in their grades. My teaching method involves guiding the student through the method and reasoning required to answer a question to enhance their understanding and improve their ability to answer similar questions in the future. I also observe how the student approaches a problem themself and then explain what they should do differently to better answer the question. If there are any gaps in their knowledge, I ensure I cover them.

Commitment

I would like to start teaching immediately. I can commit full time up to August 2015; and thereon, part time over the weekends.

I have taught English, General Paper, and Communication Strategies at University, Junior College, Polytechnic, Secondary and Primary School levels in Singapore, San Francisco, and Tokyo. My achievements and teaching successes are extensively featured by the local and international press.
As a specialist tutor in Singapore, I use the new MOE syllabus. I have partnered with the Singapore Ministry of Education's Gifted Education Branch. For many years, I served on the judging panel of the Plain English Speaking Awards, which is supported by the Ministry of Education, the National Library Board, and the Speak Good English Movement. I am regularly invited by schools and universities across Asia to speak on my methods of teaching English, Creative and Analytical Writing, and views on education.
My students' grades before attending my lessons have ranged from E/Grade 4 to A1
My achievements:
I serve on or chair education/youth development committees at education and community institutions, and was a panelist together with DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam when he was Minister for Education. I assisted in scholarships interviews at the Singapore Management University. I also chair the International Scholarship Committee for a prestigious education-focused Foundation that is based in the United States - it supports students' enrollments in top universities around the world.
​During the 4 years that I was based in San Francisco, I taught writing classes attended by students pursuing their Master's or PhDs at the University of California - Berkeley, UCLA, and the University of San Francisco/University of California - San Francisco (Medical and Law Schools). When I lived in Tokyo for 2 years, I taught English to students studying law at the University of Tokyo.
​I am a published author of white papers and commentaries on financial markets, education, and social sciences. I chair the Asian chapter of an active global think tank whose members are broadcast and print journalists, editors, journalists, policy makers, and communications hobbyists.
