<p>I applied as an English language tuition teacher for private students for a year, under Cambridge Tuition. Teaching sessions were two hours each, three times a week. I taught vocabulary, phonetics, grammar and oral communication, in accordance with Singapore's public schools' syllabi. I also taught colloquial terminologies and jargons applied relatively in different contexts of conversations in the world today. A student of mine was a secondary four China national in the express stream, whose results have since risen from an average of C5 to a definitive B3 mean.<br> One of my main teaching methods involves Socratic Questioning, or eliciting answers from my students using critical thoughts without spoon-feeding them, with few exceptions. I believe that having a disciplined and objective mindset is the first step in accomplishing a feat; the outcome, of course, is having the students experience a gratified sense of ownership and possession over their answers. I do not advocate conventional or overly conservative teaching implements, such as punishments, scoldings and teaching with no regard to the learning process. All students can be learners, but different students have different perspectives and they can study much better at their own pace, without compromising teaching schedules. All a teacher has to do then, is guide and show them the error of their ways, through realistic and logical demonstrations that the students can relate to.<br> My first order of priority is usually to facilitate and expedite the completion of my students' homework by assisting adequately and appropriately. This goes hand-in-hand with ensuring brevity and relevance in my lessons. It also helps me to construct a foundation and lesson plan for the entire course of the tuition, as well as, establish a professional relationship with the student, perhaps even beyond the fulfillment of my allocated duration. Bonding with the student and understanding how he or she conducts his or her daily life is imperative in reviewing the student's personal capabilities, thus lessons and homework the student needs. Personal encouragement can also go a long distance in motivating people with a genuine desire to learn and improve.<br> </p>
