Experience

I have one year experience teaching a Primary 1 Chinese/Higher Chinese. I taught her using her textbooks, assessment books and some outside-of-syllabus reading materials such as storybooks.
I have also worked at Kumon for around 6 months to assist in marking of classwork/ homework and evaluate simple HanyuPinyin or comprehension readings (English&Chinese) of the students to correct them on the pronoun-cation and understanding of the words,
As lower primary focuses on HanyuPinyin, I will be emphasizing on the 4 levels of tone to ensure accuracy of reading. I will be evaluating performance based on their spelling, test and exam results. I will also be introducing outside-of syllabus reading and learning materials such as newspapers, storybooks and videos to enhance the traditional ways of learning.

Commitment

I can start ASAP and will be able to do so within my next 3 years of undergraudate studies. During my school vacation from now till early August, I will be able to give more lessons to student if requested by the parents. However, I will be overseas from 8-13 June, which might affect one lesson if the student is having a weekly tuition lesson with me; I will give a make-up lesson.
Speaking of this, I hope to maintain a friendly and flexible relationship with the tutee: if the student is unable to make it for a lesson with a valid reason, I am willing to do a make-up lesson if my schedule permits. Also, if I am unable to make it for any lesson, hopefully the student will be able to accommodate as well.

Experience

I am currently teaching a sec 5 student Social Studies and Geography. Of which he has shown marked improvement for his SBQ from a fail to 17/25 on his latest test. My focus group is on teaching upper secondary students maths, science and humanities. I have taught 2 sec 4 girls in 2012 maths and a maths, of which both got A1 for e maths and 1 got A1 for A maths. For humanities, I manage to get A2 for 2 other students of which are geo/ss combi.
I am not a particularly strict teacher but I do enforce the rules when students get out of hand. If they are not concentrating, I do engage in small conversations to keep them interested and awake to carry on.
For maths, I focus a lot on practise and understanding and so I will encourage the students to try the questions first and then ask when in doubt. This is in line with how I was taught in Catholic High Secondary. Which greatly helped my studies.
