Experience

Taught/teaching students from K2 to Sec 4.
6 years of experience teaching Primary school students.
Previously managed a tuition centre and taught all the students there personally.
Right now I'm a full time tutor and I have students under my tutelage for all primary school subjects(EMSC), and two Secondary 1 student for English, Math and Science.
I have once taught a Sec 4 N Levels boy whereby his grades improved from below passing mark to top 10 in his school for N levels in 3 months time (intensive lessons daily).
In 2006, my first student's grades (Chinese) improved from B4 to A1.
I also taught a Burmese girl (6years old) Chinese from scratch to prep her for Primary school here and her results have been above average compared to her Chinese-speaking classmates.

Experience

How I teach depends on the student's academic standing. If they have a firm grasp on previous topics, I teach ahead of school because it's easier on the student to learn well the first time than to re-learn something from the tutor after losing traction and momentum in class. If the student requires it, I will first acquaint him/her to the previous topics as necessary, and reinforce with practice and other methods of transferring knowledge to the long term memory.
As per the academic paradigm shift, I make effort to induce critical thinking in the student. After all, practising on 10-year series can only help one improve so much.
Understanding the science of learning is important, and I believe this is where I can be different from other tutors. I am majoring in Psychology, and have a deep appreciation for the diversity of the mind. Additionally, I work part-time at NIE's research department as a Psychology Research Assistant to better understand how we can better teach the local student population. I can, and prefer, to work with the student's unique mental inclinations rather than force them into general styles of learning.
My three years of experience in tutoring lays the foundation for teaching and provides familiarity with the current syllabus.

Commitment

I teach 7 days a week. I understand some students require a flexible schedule - I try to accomodate as best as I can - and others require something fixed and reliable. Most mornings and evenings are fine, as are all day weekends. Teaching and learning are joy, I prefer nothing else.

Experience

I have been giving private tuition to primary 1 to 6 students (mainly in Maths and Science) for the past 7 years. I have always followed my students till they complete their PSLE. Most/all of them have improved greatly not only in their school work and also their character building. Even till now, I do keep in contact with some of them.
I usually go through the basic concepts with my students first and then let them try assessment books on their own. At times, I may set mock tests for my students to try; with a mixture of basic and higher level questions. I would also make it a point to go through all the corrections with my students, ensuring that they have thoroughly understood the correct steps to solve the problems.
My current students include a P5 girl and P6 boy, both from Nan Chiau Primary School. I teach them Maths.

Commitment

I intend to continue with NIE after I graduate from NUS this December too. Even so, I hope I can continue to teach.
