Experience

Currently I am pursuing a degree in Psychology at SIM, University of Buffalo. I do not have any experience giving home tuition but i do have experience teaching in schools and at enrichment centers which include Julia Gabriel, St. Joseph Church kindergarten and Chiltern House Halifax. I enjoy interacting with children and teaching them the skills required for them to succeed in future. I have taught children from pre-nursery up to K2 and would love the opportunity to try teaching a older age group. I have a passion for teaching children and I try my best to be engaging and interactive. I feel that it is important to give the children time to absorb what is being taught in class before continuing, and also checking to make sure if they have fully understood the concepts and then moving on. I plan practices to reinforce existing knowledge so that it will stay longer in their memory. I strongly believe that it is important for a child to enjoy learning because they will then develop the interest and desire to acquire knowledge independently to better themselves. As much as possible, I intend to relate the concepts that i would be teaching to everyday life so that the child can see its relevance and be more interested to learn.

Commitment

I can start asap and will be able to teach once or twice a week. Currently i am waiting for my new semester to start which will begin on the 26th of May and will be able to confirm my available days by the end of this month when my timetable is confirmed.

Experience

I have been teaching secondary school students on and off since 2012 when I first joined my alma mater's Peer Tutoring Programme. In the case of private tuition, my teaching style is to teach ahead of the students' school teachers. Usually, I will go through the basic concepts using textbooks and/or guidebooks, followed by guiding the students in attempting some practice questions. Few weeks later, after their school teachers have gone through the topic, I will test them again by giving them some review (more advanced) questions to try. Should the parents/ students request for a different teaching approach, I am most willing to adapt to theirs.

NB: For clarification purposes, I am a Singaporean Chinese and am bilingual (proficient in both English and Chinese). However, I only teach Chinese because I am more interested in Chinese and have more teaching resources.

Commitment

I am on semester break now and have not found a temporary job. So for now, I am available on weekdays afternoon and evening, and Saturday morning. I am most willing to provide intensive (more than 2 times per week) Chinese tuition for O Level and A Level students who will be taking their exams this June (written papers) and July (oral).
